‘The Anthem for A Beginning of the Course’ – A VR Music Experience using 3D Tune-In Toolkit

On 21st October, Manuel Marí-Altozano presented ‘The Anthem for A Beginning of the Course’, the first VR music experience based on the listener’s exploration around a room.

The project demonstrates the potential of spatial audio for music composition using the 3D Tune-In Toolkit, a library developed by SONICOM over the last few years. In this exhibition, a listener walked around the Dyson School’s Library to discover different versions of an Anthem composed for Imperial, based on the composer’s experiences during his first week in London, coinciding with the beginning of the course at Imperial College London.

By taking part, participants contributed to Manuel’s PhD research, which uses SONICOM software as an essential tool to develop individualised musical experiences for listeners. Their participation will help the researcher to improve the technological and artistic development of his future VR music experiences.
