A lot of long‑running research threads came together in 2025, all feeding into SONICOM’s final outputs and helping set things up for long‑term impact. The team pushed the science of personalised spatial audio forward with improvements in parametric HRTF modelling, tougher wave‑based simulation checks, and better alignment between virtual and real‑world acoustics. All of this helped us get a clearer picture of what today’s approaches can and can’t do.

One of the biggest milestones of the year was launching the SONICOM Ecosystem: an open platform built to preserve and share our datasets, tools, and models long after the project ends. By giving everything a sustainable home, the Ecosystem sets the stage for ongoing collaboration, reproducibility, and growth across the spatial‑audio community.
