Operations Team Leader, BBC Audio Technical Production (UK)

Profile

Tom joined the BBC as a digital audio archivist in 2001. He mixes outside broadcasts and studio sessions for BBC Radio’s music and speech programmes, specialising in live broadcasts of events, opera, and orchestral and chamber music concerts.

Since 2016 he has worked closely with the BBC Research & Development audio team, supporting their research projects and completing object-based audio mixes of binaural radio productions (like pioneering live binaural mixes from the BBC Proms and children’s adventure series iSpy Sound Detective for CBeebies Radio) and immersive virtual reality projects (like the VR fairy tale The Turning Forest and Nothing To Be Written).

Recent music work includes broadcasts from Opera North of Handel’s Alcina and Wagner’s Parsifal, coverage of the Aldeburgh Festival and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, concerts by the BBC Philharmonic, Hallé, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Royal Northern Sinfonia, and sound design for a series of immersive digital commissions from Shadwell Opera.
