Federico Avanzini

Department of Computer Science, University of Milan (Italy)

Profile

Federico Avanzini  is currently an Associate Professor at the Laboratory of Music Informatics (LIM) at University of Milan, where he teaches BSc and MSc courses in music technology, audio programming and interactive sound. Before moving back to his Alma Mater in 2018, Federico Avanzini worked for several years at the Center of Computational Sonology, University of Padova, where he also earned his PhD in Computer Science after having graduated in Physics and in piano performance at the University and Conservatory of Milan, respectively. His main research interests concern algorithms for sound synthesis and processing, and 3D sound rendering. He applies these technologies in several domains, including assistive technologies, virtual musical instruments, digital cultural heritage, digital learning (with specific reference to music education). Federico Avanzini has been principal investigator and scientific responsible of EU, national, and industry funded projects, including HAPTIFEEL (H2020-MSCA-IF-2014 659645) and DREAM (EA-CEA 2010-1174/001-001). He is currently serving as Associate Editor for the journal Acta Acustica, Conference Coordinator in the permanent Steering Committee of the Sound & Music Computing Conference and Summer School, President of the Italian Music Informatics Association (AIMI).

Federico Federico Avanzini is the local PI for University of Milan and leads Task 1.3 within WP1. He is also directly involved in the immersive audio research within WP1, specifically HRTF personalisation and real/virtual acoustic matching in AR, and within WP4 for the evaluation of real-life scenarios.
